Forever Green Cali is a BBB-accredited landscaping company that develops custom outdoor spaces in Northern California. The project manager consulted with our team at The UPS Store to design and print signage to promote their services in residential neighborhoods.

Getting Started

Analyzing Existing Visual Style

Because Forever Green Cali didn’t have prior print material to refer to, I needed to analyze the branding from the website to establish a baseline for consistency across digital and print. This included gathering the color palette, fonts, imagery, and noting how it is applied in the digital experience. The digital was a clean look with subtle background textures, with color accents that made the images stand out.

Adapting to Multiple Sizes

Since the prints needed to be completed within a 2-week timeline, it was decided that the design for both the A-frame and yard signs to be similar. Influenced by the concept of responsive design, I started with the yard signs first since they were smaller in size to establish a baseline that I can expand on in the A-Frame version.

In the early stages, I dived deep into experimental sketches combining two or three symbols at a time. I created a list of keywords to help research reference symbols and brainstorm tangible items or concepts related to the industry. Doing this provided guidance in exploring multiple design directions.

A-Frame Sign

Many logo designs geared toward children’s learning often use a bright, colorful ROYGBIV color palette. Though fitting, having more than 4 colors could make the design too busy. I explored monochromatic and triadic color palettes.
